Teacher Quality Grants (with TCU biology)

Teacher Quality

Since 2003, the Andrews Institute has been awarded 7 Teacher Quality Enhancement Grants (TQ) to provide 110 hours of professional development for teachers.  These grants are intended to help prepare teachers to meet the challenging demands of teaching math and science.

Two grants were awarded in May 2008, one for elementary teachers and one for secondary teachers.  Both grants focus on environmental education.  They are both in partnership with Fort Worth Independent School District (ISD).

The 2008-2009 cohort of teachers will attend a two-week summer academy held at TCU and the FWISD Outdoor Learning Center.

The summer program is being followed by workshops held one Saturday a month during the academic year.  Teachers continue to meet to discuss how well they have integrated the new information into their practice.  They share ideas and offer encouragement.

Graduate students in the doctoral program help by bringing strong content knowledge and pedagogical skills.
