Andrews Institute of Mathematics, Science & Technology Education
The
Andrews Institute of Mathematics, Science & Technology
Education was
established as a collaborative venture between the College of Education
and the College of Science & Engineering to address, among other things,
the issues of training and qualifications for both pre-service and in-service
teachers in mathematics and the sciences.
The mission of the Andrews Institute is to provide an environment for innovation and change in mathematics, science, and technology education through creative research and teaching by faculty and students at TCU. In pursuit of this mission, the Institute has adopted the following goals:
Increase the number of students in the mathematics and science educational
pipeline at all levels.Institute Programs and Projects
The
Andrews Institute offers a dynamic system of programs, projects,
and services designed to mirror its goals and objectives. The principal
programs of the Andrews Institute are:
For Teachers-in-Training:
Teacher Education Emphasizing Mathematics and Science (TEEMS)
Through the TEEMS program, the Andrews Institute recruits and educates teachers at the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral levels. These teachers help fill the need for qualified and enthusiastic K-12 science and mathematics teachers. They also fill college faculty positions in which they conduct education research and teach science and mathematics education courses.
For In-Service Teachers:
Teacher Collaboration for Updating Science, Technology and Mathematics Proficiency (TCU-STAMP)
Through the TCU-STAMP program, the Andrews Institute regularly
offers teacher forums for collaborative exchange, as well professional
development workshops for which in-service teachers receive state-required
CPE credit. These workshops focus on helping teachers update
their content knowledge and teaching skills.
For K-12 Students and Parents:
Pupils Reviving Interest in Science and Mathematics (PRISM)
In addition to working with pre-service and in-service teachers, the Andrews Institute works with K-12 students and their parents through PRISM. This program provides K-12 students the opportunity to work with scientists, mathematics, and educators at TCU.
